The new Liebherr A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact Litronic wheeled excavators have received the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” award in the Product Design 2026 discipline. The highest award standard for visionary and exceptionally outstanding product design.
The new wheeled excavator series from Liebherr was recognised by an international jury of experts, in a first-class field of participants, with numerous submissions from companies and design studios from all over the world, scoring 96 out of a possible 100 Red Dot Winner Points.

The two Liebherr wheeled excavators A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact are compact yet powerful all-round machines for demanding construction applications. The models in the nine and eleven tonne class have been developed from scratch and impress with state-of-the-art technology, high efficiency and first-class workmanship. With their attractive product design, the two models fit harmoniously into the existing Liebherr product portfolio and emphasise the high standards of quality, continuity and progressiveness.
About the Red Dot Design Award
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most prestigious international design competitions. Since 1955, the prize has been awarded to products that stand out for their particularly high design quality. At the centre of the competition is the well-founded evaluation by an independent, international jury of experts. All submissions are intensively scrutinised and evaluated based on key criteria of good design – including functionality, use, responsibility and design quality. The jury comprises experts from a wide range of disciplines, ensuring objective and holistic judgement.
All components – from the comfortable cab interior and the new INTUSI (Intuitive User Interface) operating system to the visually optimised exterior – have been consistently designed for functionality and user benefit.
Thanks to their compact dimensions, powerful hydraulics and precise controls, the new wheeled excavators offer maximum manoeuvrability and flexibility, even in the tightest of spaces. Despite their compact design, both models have the largest cab interior in their class. A spacious access and optimised all-round visibility increase comfort, ergonomics and safety. The intuitive and customisable INTUSI operating system is complemented by newly developed joysticks with innovative functions. Both machines are easy to transport, quick to set up and therefore ideal for changing operating locations.
