The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) has recently added to its technical capability with support from Ian Simpson.
Through his company Langside Consulting, Ian will be providing technical consultancy services to the association and its special interest groups, including the Crane Interest Group (CIG), the Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) and the Construction Hoist Interest Group (CHIG).
Ian is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and brings with him over 40 years’ of experience of working in industry and health and safety regulation. In his previous role as a Principal Specialist Inspector with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Ian was responsible for the investigation of many serious accidents arising from the use of construction plant, access and lifting equipment. Ian has sat on various BSI committees and chaired the MHE3/11 Crane Safety Committee responsible for the BS7121 Crane Safety series of standards.
CPA Chief Executive Kevin Minton said: “Ian has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we welcome him as a strong addition to our team. Our Special Interest Groups will undoubtedly benefit from his contribution.”
The CPA works with government departments and agencies, local authorities, construction clients, private companies, other trade associations, and third sector organisations, on issues including employee health and safety, machinery standards and emissions control, public safety and roadtransport, skills and employment. The CPA supports a number of Special Interest Groups, which tackle issues within specialist sectors.
