The consistent quality of after-market support offered to Argyll based TSL Contractors Ltd by SMT GB’s local home based engineer backed up by the customer support centre at Stirling has prompted another order for a Volvo ECR235E reduced swing excavator.
This latest machine follows a range of Volvo Construction Equipment products which were supplied two years ago and have proved to be high on productivity, performance and reliability. “More importantly for us, SMT GB has demonstrated a consistent quality of after-market support when it’s been needed,” comments TSL’s Plant Manager Stuart Lawrie. “When we’ve called on SMT for assistance we always get a response the same day and we cannot praise Neil Bruce, the home based engineer enough for his support. He goes the extra mile to get issues resolved for us.”
Choosing a reduced swing excavator is a new departure for TSL Contractors Ltd. “The ECR235E is an ideal sized machine for the duties we will be using it for,” continues Stuart. “These include excavating deep cuts in relatively tight spaces when creating new hydro scheme projects and the reduced swing capability means the overall amount of material required to be removed is reduced. The machine will also be used on our new housing projects where once again significant muck shifting can take place in confined spaces on site.”
To complement the features offered by the reduced swing ECR235E, TSL Contractors Ltd also opted for a Steelwrist X26 Tiltrotator. “The whole combination gives us a huge amount of flexibility allowing us to carry out virtually all the requirements on very tight and confined sites with the minimum amount of manoeuvring and travel,” says Stuart. “Overall, it’s given us a new dimension to our operations and is completely on top of the job.”
The ECR235E is equipped with a Stage IV 6 litre Volvo engine producing 174 hp which operates in conjunction with an advanced mode control system ensuring the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. Equipped with a 5.7m monobloc boom and 2.9m dipper arm, the maximum reach is a generous 9.5 metres, dig depth measures 6.75 metres and practical load over height equals 7.87 metres. The lifting capacity across carriage at full reach is an impressive 3.1 tonnes and the all up operating weight is 25 tonnes.
TSL Contractors Ltd was established thirty eight years ago operating a small quarry on the Isle of Mull and has developed into a major construction, civil engineering and groundworks company operating in an area from the very North of Scotland to the Trossachs. The company specializes in hydro-electric schemes, major building projects such as affordable housing contracts for the Scottish Government and contracts for Scottish Water and other national contractors. It also continues to maintain a presence in the extractive, aggregates and ready-mix concrete industries. The company which employs 115 personnel has its head Office on the Isle of Mull, its hub construction office in Oban and satellite construction offices in Fort William and Loch Lomond.
SMT GB markets Volvo Construction Equipment products which include wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, Volvo utility equipment and Volvo road equipment products in Great Britain. There are eight strategically placed customer support centres, a dedicated National Used Equipment Centre and a network of utility equipment dealers to ensure high quality customer support is maintained throughout the country.
