On Saturday, September 10th, in the spectacular setting of M O’Brien’s sand quarry, in Leighton Buzzard, the final of the 2022 UK Plant Operators Magazine, Plant Operator of the year was held.

From over 200 applicants the final 40 were selected. Meeting to challenge themselves, control the nerves and give their very best to determine the overall winner.

With a crowd of over 300 cheering the finalists, the tasks tested the operator’s skill and control over a series of straight trench, tiltrotator, selector grab and machine control challenges.

Six independent judges from the CITB, leading training academies and plant hire trainers, marked and verified the scores, announcing the UK’s champion plant operator for 2022 as Hannah Jarman.

Hannah, who works for Breheny Civil Engineering, along with her dad Mark (who was runner-up) and brother Lewis, who also entered the competition, became the first women to win the accolade and in doing so a cheque for £10,000.

Commenting UK Plant Operator Magazine publisher Brian Coogan said, “This is a great win for Hannah, she demonstrated across the tasks and challenges why she is the champion operator for 2022”.
