Elite Sheet Piling Ltd of Stoke on Trent has added a brand new forty tonne excavator to its fleet of piling machines and equipment in the guise of a Volvo EC380E.
The EC380E was chosen my Managing Director Carl Ingram after having purchased the smaller twenty-two tonne EC220E in 2018. “We have been very impressed with the EC220E since we bought it last year and this being our first Volvo,” comments Carl. “The machine more than exceeded our expectations in terms of its hydraulic capability to power our Movax piling heads and ancillary equipment as well as its general performance and reliability. As we were looking to add a larger thirty five tonne unit to our fleet we were tempted to go that bit extra and opt for the forty tonne Volvo EC380E based on the performance and reliability of the smaller machine and so far, we have been delighted with our decision.”
Powered by a Stage IV compliant engine developing 306 net horsepower the Volvo EC380E offersthe latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. “The EC380E has plenty of hydraulic horsepower thanks to the large 13 litre engine and twin variable pumps delivering 300 litres a minute and the machine’s height and reach capabilities give us that extra edge when it comes to handling and placing piling sheets ranging from 3 to 17 metres in length,” says Carl. All of the Movax piling equipment is powered from the machine’s X1 hammer/shear circuit with an optional large bore return line to the hydraulic tank and the electro-hydraulic system and main control valve uses Volvo’s ‘intelligent technology’ to control on-demand flow for high productivity with efficient fuel consumption.
As with the EC220E, the new EC380E is covered by a Volvo Blue service agreement whereby the regular maintenance of the machines is undertaken by Volvo trained service engineers using genuine Volvo parts at the correct service intervals.
The combination of their largest excavator to date, the EC380E, together with the SG75 Movax piling rig now enables Elite Sheet Piling to undertake bigger and larger contracts nationwide making them one of the UK’s leading Movax side grip sheet piling contractors. The company specializes in all aspects of driven sheet piling including permanent sheet pile cofferdams, retaining walls, flood defences and all forms of temporary works nationwide from their base located in Stoke on Trent.
