Following what it says is extensive research and innovation in partnership with German engine manufacturer, Deutz, Kobelco Construction Machinery Europe has announced the launch of its first electric mini excavator concept.
The company says the arrival of the Kobelco electric powered 17SR comes just three years after the European introduction of its pioneering SK210HLC-10 hybrid excavator, and further reinforces its strategy of reducing its environmental impact. The Electric powered 17SR concept was presented for the first time at Bauma.
The development of the 1.7 tonne electric mini excavator concept is the result of a combination of Kobelco’s expertise in developing highly efficient construction machinery for urban jobsites and Deutz’s superior electric drive technology. Together, this combination will enable the 17SR to deliver zero emissions, extremely low noise operation and reduced life cycle costs according to Kobelco.
The company commented: “While the 17SR is still a concept, we plan to further develop the machine in conjunction with Deutz over the next two years. Our objective is to manufacture a fully-electric mini excavator that will be capable of performing at the top of its class, with a long life battery for utmost convenience. With this in mind, we expect the Electric powered 17SR to launch to the European market in 2021.”
