Collins Earthworks Ltd of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, has taken delivery of the first seventy five tonne Volvo EC750E to land in Great Britain following its launch at this year’s Bauma exhibition.

The new arrival will spearhead the larger prestigious projects being undertaken by the Nottingham muck shifting company and will become the company’s flagship excavator. “The reason we’ve opted for Volvo once again is simple,” states Managing Director David Collins. “We wanted to be one of the first to take delivery of this long anticipated model in the Volvo line up – not least due to the fact that we are proud to have had some input into the machine’s development with one of our top operators being invited to take part in a customer clinic at the factory in South Korea. We’re really pleased with the result! The machine certainly looks the part and it will certainly enhance the profile of Collins Earthworks going forwards,” he continues.

The new EC750E is a 75 tonne class crawler excavator that offers the perfect combination of power and stability to handle a higher capacity in any application. Building on the successful legacy of the EC700, which was originally launched in 2005, the EC750E features advanced fuel efficiency technology, ensuring an extremely responsive operation for maximum productivity and profitability. Powered by a Volvo 16 litre Stage IV diesel engine developing 508 nett hp, the EC750E offers innovative electro-hydraulic technology, delivering greater operator control and productivity.

The hydraulic system, in combination with Volvo’s advanced ECO mode, works in unison to reduce internal losses in the hydraulic circuit – resulting in improved fuel efficiency without any loss of performance in most operating conditions. Even in the toughest environments, the EC750E yields superior digging performance, including maximum break out forces of 323/342 (boosted) kN as well as good fuel efficiency and quick cycle times for a maximum return on investment. The well- balanced excavator features a wide track gauge, long track length, a retractable undercarriage and an optimized counterweight for solid stability, enabling operators to work with confidence in adverse terrains.

Specifically for Collins Earthworks the EC750E has been ordered in mass excavation configuration sporting a 6.6m boom, 2.9m dipper arm and a 5.7m³ heavy-duty mass excavation bucket. Thus rigged the EC750E gives a generous forward reach of 11.46 metres and a dig depth of 7.21 metres. Effective load over height is 7.0 metres and the lifting capacity at full reach across carriage a whopping 13.64 tonnes. As with all Volvo excavators, the hammer shear hydraulic circuit and hose rupture valves are fitted as standard.

Built with the operator in mind, the industry-leading Volvo cab delivers a superior operator experience with a low-noise environment for optimum operator productivity. Ergonomically positioned interfaces – including the joysticks, keypad and LCD monitor and clear all-around visibility ensures maximum efficiency and ease of use. The spacious cab features ample storage and leg room, 12 air-conditioner vents and adjustable seat, keeping the operator fresh, alert and focused.

This latest edition now brings Collins Earthworks’ fleet of Volvo excavators to 70 machines with the seventy five tonne EC750E being the largest so far. “Ultimately though it’s all down to the back up and the quality of service we receive from Volvo irrespective of where in the country we are working. They are second to none when it comes to supporting us.” On top of that Mr Collins also cites the package on offer together with the expectation of high residual values when the time comes to trade.
